Barry Bertrando
Estimator/Project Manager
Barry started with Corrado as a laborer in 1979, just a couple of years out of high school. Within a few years’ time, he had mastered the shovel and the jack hammer and was elevated to Laborer Foreman. From day one, Barry was good at reading prints and visualizing the work. He had a knack for picking up problems on the drawings, especially with site utilities, so issues could be addressed and corrected before materials were ordered.
As he grew in his position, his attention to detail led Barry to specialize in utility work. After five years of grooming, Barry became the guy you wanted with your crew for the most difficult projects – large and small. The Corrados were aware of Barry’s unique talents and in 1991, they attempted to pull him into the office to work in estimating. Initially, Barry resisted – strongly – but the Corrados eventually persuaded him to come in for a “trial” period.
Barry started in the office as an apprentice Estimator and as such, was relegated to doing the grunt-work for take-offs using, at the time, a very new computerized cut/fill system. Barry really enjoyed the absolute precision of the computer system but found that the problems he had dealt with in the field were even more abundant in the world of estimating. Barry did the takeoffs and provided the comments and corrections necessary to make the system work in the field. In less than a year, Barry lost the apprentice position and was elevated to Estimator and in very short-order Senior Estimator/Project Manager.
Once again, Barry was identified as the go-to guy for all aspects of particularly problematic projects. He continued in this capacity until Joe pulled him from the fold in 2008 to work in tandem with Jill Brown. This was a perfect match. Barry enjoys getting into the details and has a good eye for breaking down a project in order to build an estimate that is both comprehensive and precise. Jill enjoys the project management aspects of building teams, putting all the pieces together and working with our clients.
